What are the luxury hotels in the Ecuadorian Amazon?

The Ecuadorian Amazon has hotel infrastructure classified as luxury or 5 stars. Hotels and lodges are part of the tourist offer that El Oriente has. According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, the region has 9 establishments of this type, ranging from luxury to super luxury.

Most of the hotels are concentrated in 4 provinces: Napo, Orellana, Sucumbíos and Morona Santiago, according to information from the Ministry of Tourism.

Here is a brief description of what each one offers:

Arrayan y Piedra: It is a luxury inn, located at kilometer 7 of the Macas-Puyo road, in the province of Morona Santiago. “Arrayan y Piedra is a beautiful resort on the Upano River in the southeastern Ecuadorian Amazon designed from scratch with a focus on authentic Ecuadorian architectural and horticultural design. Pure comfort and relaxation with a touch of luxury in every detail,” says its website.

Arahuana Jungle: It is located on the Tena-Archidona road kilometer 2.1/2 in the province of Napo. The hotel, according to its web page, has facilities such as swimming pools, mini-golf, restaurants, 2 covered tennis courts, among other attractions.

Anaconda Lodge: It is located on a magical island, between the Napo and Arajuno rivers. It is surrounded by primary and secondary jungle, inhabited by the Kichwa or Napo Runa Indians, who are neighbors and guides during excursions. It has cabins, a garden and the possibility of excursions into the Amazon.

Gran Hotel del Lago: This is a 5 star hotel chain that operates in the Amazon. It has hotels in Lago Agrio, El Coca and Shushufindi. In 1980 the then called Gran Hostal de Lago was founded. According to its website, what began with the dream of a hostel in the city of Lago Agrio, gave way to the development of the most important hotel chain in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

La Selva Jungle Lodge: A luxury site in Orellana. La Selva Jungle Lodge is a first class lodge within the Yasuní Biosphere Reserve on the edge of Yasuní National Park. The lodge, according to its website, faces the lake and combines rustic beauty with modern luxury. It offers services such as massages, yoga practice area, restaurants, etc. It offers bird watching and tours of the park. Lodging costs start at over $1,000.

Napo Wildlife Center: Probably the most luxurious lodge in the Ecuadorian Amazon, located in the province of Orellana. Hidden in the heart of Yasuní National Park is the luxurious Napo Wildlife Center Eco-Lodge. Its 20 red-thatched cabins and multi-level, temple-like main hall border the shores of legendary Lake Añangu, whose mysterious black waters glisten in the sun. Lodging costs start at $1,400.

Sacha Lodge: Located in the province of Orellana. The history of Sacha Lodge begins in the 1970’s when the Swiss founder Benny arrived in Ecuador. He was captivated by the Napo River, and in 1985, Benny opened his first tourist lodge, La Casa del Suizo, in the Upper Napo. But soon, civilization moved in. With the help of 170 local employees, Sacha Lodge officially opened in 1992 with 6 rooms. Now, Sacha Lodge has 26 rooms, including single, double and (upon request) triple rooms and three family cabins.

These luxurious hotels are visited all year round by local and foreign tourists.
